It has been confirmed that Maxime Renaux will miss the remainder of the 2026 MXGP season after a rib injury sustained at the MXGP of Sweden was further aggravated during the following round in the Netherlands.
Renaux initially picked up the injury in Sweden but attempted to continue racing. However, a heavy crash at the MXGP of The Netherlands in Arnhem worsened the issue, forcing the Frenchman to step away from the championship.
Yamaha has now confirmed the news in its preview for this weekend’s MXGP of Turkey, bringing Renaux’s 2026 campaign to an early end.
“Unfortunately, the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team will be without Maxime Renaux for the remainder of the 2026 campaign. The Frenchman sustained a rib injury at the MXGP of Sweden, which was further aggravated during the MXGP of The Netherlands. Following medical evaluation, the decision was made for Renaux to sit out the final three rounds and focus on a full recovery”.
Renaux’s absence means he will miss the final three rounds of the MXGP World Championship as he turns his attention towards making a full recovery.
The Arnhem round could also prove to have been Renaux’s final MXGP appearance with Yamaha. The French talent is rumoured to be on his way to the factory KTM effort for the 2027 season, where he is likely to join the De Carli Racing awning.
Renaux has been a key part of Yamaha’s factory MXGP programme, but his future is now expected to be one of the major talking points ahead of the 2027 season.
For now, however, the focus will be on recovery as Renaux’s 2026 MXGP campaign comes to an unfortunate early conclusion.
