Kyle Webster has confirmed that he has undergone surgery on his shoulder and will miss the remainder of the 2026 season, ruling him out of contention for the Australian team at this year’s Motocross of Nations.
Webster had been dealing with shoulder issues stemming from his crash at Hangtown earlier this year when he made the trip to America to compete in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Despite the injury, the Australian battled through the remainder of his domestic campaign and still managed to finish third in the Australian MX1 Championship.
However, with surgery now complete, Webster will turn his attention towards recovering fully and returning stronger in 2027.
The news will come as a blow to Australia’s MXoN hopes, with Webster having formed part of the team alongside the Lawrence brothers for the past two editions of the prestigious event – winning the event!
With Webster now unavailable, the Australian team selection picture has become even more interesting. Jed Beaton is set to head to the United States for the final three rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, while the MX2 position is expected to be between Jake Cannon and Kayden Minear.
Aaron Tanti, meanwhile, finished runner-up in the Australian MX1 Championship and will likely feel he has a strong case for selection.
Webster shared the following update on social media:
“P3 in the championship. Definitely not where we wanted to finish, but I’m happy to have made it to the end of the season”.
“Unfortunately, I’d been dealing with some shoulder issues from the crash I had at Hangtown, which was making my right arm weak while riding. I had surgery last week and got the rebuild from Dr Steve Andrews. Now it’s time for some downtime, get healthy and come back stronger for next year”.
“A huge thank you to my team and everyone in my corner. It’s been a massive effort from everyone, and I genuinely can’t thank you all enough”.
