Official: Calvin Vlaanderen signs with SR Honda for MXGP in 2027

While the 2026 season actively continues, 2027 is already being prepared and the SR Motoblouz Honda team are both proud and happy to officially announce the arrival of Calvin Vlaanderen in the team for next season.

Winner of several world championship motos, two Grand Prix races, and a Motocross of Nations, Calvin Vlaanderen is a highly experienced rider who has steadily progressed since his first rides in his native South Africa. Since his arrival in Europe, he has patiently climbed the ranks, riding for several factory teams, including Honda HRC. during the past four seasons, he has consistently finished in the world’s top seven, achieving seven podium finishes in the premier MXGP class.

For the Honda Motoblouz SR Motul team, reduced to one rider since Thibault Bénistant’s injury, the signing of Calvin Vlaanderen offers hope for the future. From their initial discussions, Calvin shows his enthusiasm to join the team, which benefits from increased support from Honda and HRC. Having celebrated his 30th birthday in June, Calvin will bring his enthusiasm and extensive experience to the team, enabling it to reach a new level.

Calvin Vlaanderen: « I am super excited to join the team ! I saw what they did since a couple of years and I’m excited to be back on a Honda. For me it’s a big step to join them, I’m excited to start working with them ! i have a lot of experience, I have been racing as a privateer and in several factory teams, I know what is necessary to be at the top so I will bring this experience with me and for sure it will help myself but also the team to grow and hopefully to come close to the top five and podium results.”

Josse Sallefranque: “Calvin has a lot of experience, and in the MXGP class we see that through riders such as Romain Febvre or Jeffrey Herlings, you either need a lot of experience or be a rising star like Lucas Coenen to succeed. After a difficult year for us with the injury to Thibault, our star rider, we had to bounce back, and during discussions with riders capable of competing in the top ten, Calvin’s name came up several times. He quickly connected with us, and we were able to find solutions to bring him on board. Honda and HRC are behind us, as are our sponsors without whom none of this would be possible, and the arrival of a rider like Calvin should help us reach a new level in the highly competitive MXGP category.”
