It is a star-studded line-up at Keiheuval this weekend with Herlings, Gajser, Febvre and many more GP stars all lining up and now Antonio Cairoli has been confirmed as racing the 250 Ducati in the deep sand!
Cairoli raced the event two years ago on a 250 KTM and beat his own riders, Everts and Adamo! It’s going to be exciting see how Cairoli can do on the new Ducati 250 – maybe a possible MXoN spot up for grabs if injuries hit the Italians?
Cairoli told us he would be open to racing at Ernee for Italy when he caught up with the 9 time world champ at Lommel: “I mean Italy has a good team at the moment. I mean Bonacorsi is back and he deserves of course to ride then we have Adamo who is doing really well in MXGP and Lata, so I mean I’m always open to ride for Italy of course, I’m really proud. But of course also other riders are there and they’ve a right to ride also. So I mean I’m never pushing to ride the MXoN, it’s just more like if they need me, but not at the moment.”
On racing a 250 again Cairoli said: “I’m open, I’m still riding a bit so now I’m in Belgium for this month and now we ride more sand so I think it will help also my condition for sure to be more fit and you never know, maybe some other races over here in Holland, Belgium or Germany to try to set up also the 250 bike which is still for me a really nice bike to ride you know.”
We even asked Cairoli last weekend if he would consider riding at Keiheuval and he told us: “I don’t know, I mean it would be fun of course but at the moment we have nothing done for that race but if it comes just during this week some possibility I will consider.”
