Spanish sensation Guillem Farres continues to be one of the hottest properties in the MXGP paddock as speculation surrounding his 2027 plans intensifies. After an outstanding MX2 campaign, the Spaniard has attracted serious interest from multiple manufacturers ahead of what is expected to be his rookie MXGP World Championship season.
Before making the move to the premier class, however, Farres has unfinished business in MX2. The factory Triumph rider currently leads the championship by 33 points following the Czech Grand Prix at Loket and is firmly in control of the title race. With title rival Sacha Coenen still not at 100%, Farres could have the opportunity to extend that advantage further when the series heads to the demanding deep sand of Lommel.
Only last week there was genuine confidence within the paddock that Farres was set to become a factory Kawasaki Racing Team rider for the 2027 season. However, there now appears to have been a significant late twist.
It is now believed that Triumph have now made a suitable offer, with Farres now expected to remain with the British manufacturer for 2027. Rather than switching teams, the Spaniard is understood to be staying within the factory Triumph structure as he steps up to the MXGP World Championship.
If that proves to be the case, Farres is expected to partner the returning Mikkel Haarup, with Triumph now anticipated to field a two-rider factory MXGP team for the 2027 season.
The development leaves Kawasaki Racing Team with some important decisions to make. With Romain Febvre already confirmed to join Ducati on a factory deal for the 2027 and 2028 seasons, and Farres now looking increasingly likely to remain at Triumph, KRT will have to explore alternative options as they shape their MXGP line-up for next season.
