Belgium have revealed they have decided to withdraw from the MXoN taking place at Matterley Basin next weekend. (UPDATE: Since this, they have confirmed THEY WILL race the event with Lucas Coenen in MX2).
Sacha Coenen tried to race in Spain but it wasn’t possible so he pulled out after free practice. Brent van Doninck would have been a good replacement but they’ve decided to totally withdraw from the event.
You can read their statement below:
It is with deep regret that we announce Team Belgium’s withdrawal from this year’s prestigious Motocross of Nations (MXON) race, set to take place in Matterley Basin, UK. Unfortunately, a series of injuries and circumstances beyond our control have left team manager Joël Roelants with no other viable option.
Liam Everts is recovering from a fractured neck, and Sacha Coenen is sidelined with a leg injury. We only received confirmation on Saturday that Sacha would be unable to ride, leaving us in a challenging situation. While Jago Geerts and Brent van Doninck were both willing to step in, neither of them has raced an MX2 bike this year. The only viable option was to move Lucas Coenen to the MX2 class, as he has been on that bike all year, dominated the last GPs, and finished second in the world championship.
However, Lucas was not willing to ride in the MX2 class for this event, leaving us without a complete lineup. Given these challenges, the Belgian team is unable to assemble a complete and competitive lineup for the race. While this decision is made with heavy hearts, we will focus on regrouping and look forward to returning stronger in the future.
We sincerely thank everyone for their continued support of the team. We’ll keep our fans and sponsors informed as we move forward and look ahead to future events.
And Belgium’s biggest legend and former multitime MxoN winner, the GOAT Stefan Everts, was stunned at the news posting..
UPDATE: Belgium have now confirmed they will turn up to the event in this official statement. Great news!
