It was an interesting MXGP qualifying race as Tim Gajser got the holeshot and started to really pull away at the front while Jorge Prado got a rare average start only in sixth on lap one.
Jeffrey Herlings was in second and the first ten minutes had Calvin Vlaanderen right on his rear wheel as the Yamaha man tried to make a move. Meanwhile, Prado quickly passed Coldenhoff and then battled Seewer before making a move.
Prado didn’t have much time to make up on Vlaanderen and actually caught but then seem to lose the flow which meant he had to settle for fourth.
At the front, Herlings with a couple of minutes to go upped the pace and flicked the switch. He caught Gajser and put in an aggressive pace to take the lead and take an impressive race win.
Herlings apologised to Gajser after the race as he said he doesn’t like being so aggressive but felt it was the only way he’d make the race win happen due to the track being flat and difficult to pass.
Tomorrow could be an interesting day in the championship chase…
