As exclusively reported earlier this month, the Cab Screens Yamaha team who have done a great job in the British paddock for a number of years have sadly announced they will be closing their doors.
It’s a blow to British Motocross as they were one of the best teams in the paddock and also a blow for Harri Kullas who currently hasn’t got any plans for the 2024 season.
We would like to wish all involved with the team the very best for the future and hopefully they can make a return in the future.
The team posted the following update on social media:
“The team are extremely sad to announce that we will not running in 2024, with immediate effect. After 3 years with Yamaha UK and putting Yamaha firmly back on the map in the UK motocross scene, unfortunately there is no offer of support for 2024 at this stage, so we have to make the tough decision for all parties involved including team members, riders and sponsors.
“We want to say a massive thanks to our team, riders, fans and sponsors who have helped us get as far as we did. We’re a small team that have punched way above our weight for some time. But the time has come for us to close our doors. We will be forever grateful for the memories and the support”.
Team owner, Lee Webber shared the following message:
OVER AND OUT: unfortunately 2023 will be my last season running a team, 11 years is not too shabby and I’m proud of what we have achieved in that time.
I had intended to continue with Yamaha for the foreseeable future but with no deal or any offer of a deal at this stage I needed to make the decision now for people within the team and sponsors. To say I’m disappointed would be an understatement but these things happen and I honestly thought there would always be something at Yamaha for me, particularly in light of what we have achieved these last 3 years, putting Yamaha firmly back on the map in the UK winning MX Nationals 3 times, Bridgestone masters, and finishing runner up twice in the British Championship, winning many races and rounds along the way and achieving some fantastic results also on the world stage, most of which has been funded predominantly by myself. there’s no doubt in my mind that the British championship would have been a lot less interesting without us these past few seasons, and whilst we didn’t win it we came mighty close, and who knows how the ending might have been in 2022 if the race director would have done the right thing at round one! My brother and myself started this back in 2012 by putting an advert in TMX offering help to a young rider, we’ve finished at arguably the best ever MX0N with a rider, some journey that! There’s to many people to mention and thank for the last 11 years but I do need to single out a couple of people, my Brother Ian Webber for being there every single step of the way as the co founder, but the biggest thanks has to go to Simon Marden, for whom none of the last 11 seasons would have been possible, we’ve done some miles together, experienced every high and low, and we’ll have some stories to take into old age that’s for sure. I’m still going to be involved in a rider for 2024 so you’re not getting rid of me just yet, but I won’t be cleaning a truck (and toilet) out every week or putting up an awning, a couple of things I won’t miss, and I’ll get to spend more time with the family, the wife will be thrilled. From the bottom of my heart a huge thanks to anyone who has helped grow the team, be it big or small, without you none of it would have been possible, it’s been a blast.
