After a great season so far and getting selected for the Netherlands in the MXON at Matterley Basin, Calvin Vlaanderen suffered a first turn crash at Arnhem that had him fighting back to 14th despite some knee pain.
But, despite his determination, the pain became too much and Vlaanderen couldn’t line up for moto two – and now awaits tests on the knee to see the severity of the injury – a real shame after a breakout season as a factory MXGP rider.
Yamaha said in their PR: “His knee, – which swelled up badly after the first moto – suffered badly in his crash in the first moto. A scan on Monday should reveal how serious the injury is.”
Calvin said on IG: “It was definitely not the home GP we were aiming for. In the first corner of moto 1 I got taken out and someone rode over my knee. I tried to finish off the day but it was impossible with the pain. This week I’ll go for further checks and will keep you posted.”
