Video: Tomac’s costly Hangtown crash

Eli Tomac banged bars with Valentin Guillod off the start of moto two at Hangtrown leaving Star Yamaha rider mid-pack and having to hit, “beast mode,” on lap one to try and save the overall win after his first moto victory had put him in prime position.

Tomac put the pedal to the metal and was absolutely flying through the field and got himself into eighth before the halfway point, only to go down as he tried to pass teammate, Cooper Webb. This ended his hopes of the win, with a deflated Tomac getting back through to ninth and a frustrating fourth overall when he had the speed to beat Jett Lawrence and gain points on the championship leader.

So far, like supercross, starts and mistakes are hindering Tomac despite having the speed to win. Tomac now sits third in the championship, one point off Plessinger and 17 back of Jett Lawrence.

Tomac said: “Couple of things happened to me, bad luck on the start, got hit by the guy next to me just passed the gate. Then I made a mistake on my own when I was somewhere around sixth or seventh, just washed the front. That really did end the day for me, I probably would have had a good chance of a making a run to the front before the crash. But, once that happened, that was all she wrote.”
