There has been an injury setback for Kay de Wolf ahead of the upcoming international race at Lierop. The Dutch talent has confirmed that he will miss this weekend’s Lierop International, dealing a blow just days before the start of the new season.
De Wolf didn’t go into full detail about the injury, but it is believed he sustained a thumb issue while racing in France last weekend. Reports suggest the problem was serious enough to require surgery earlier this week, forcing the MXGP rookie to sit out the event on home soil.
“I will be missing the Dutch MX Season Opener this weekend at Lierop. I’m really bummed to not race this special track. But we will be back soon!!”, De Wolf revealed on social media.
His absence from Lierop inevitably raises some doubts about whether he will be fully fit in time for the opening round of the MXGP World Championship, which kicks off next weekend in Argentina. However, the expectation is that De Wolf and his team are doing everything possible to ensure he can make the gate when the world championship gets underway.
For now, the focus will be on recovery, with everyone hoping the talented Dutchman can return to action quickly and line up for the GP opener relatively pain free.
