After announcing his return to MX2 GP racing at Arco di Trento last weekend, Jens Walvoort’s comeback didn’t go as hoped. The Dutch rider had been sidelined with a fracture to his C6 and C7 vertebrae and only had a few days back on the bike prior to the Italian GP, but felt better than expected which prompted the decision to race.
Despite the optimism heading into the weekend, things didn’t go to plan at the GP. Walvoort stayed in Italy after the event to get more time on the bike and rode again at Arco di Trento, but struggled to complete a full moto without pain.
As a result, he will undergo another check-up and CT scan to assess the situation. The BTS KTM team informed us that they’ve made the decision to skip at least the next two rounds of the MX2 World Championship. The priority is to allow Walvoort time to fully recover, as lining up before he’s 100% fit would prevent him from showing his true potential.
Walvoort impressed last year and will be hoping to remind everyone of his talents before the end of the season.
Fingers crossed the talented Dutchman can make a full recovery soon. When back to full fitness, there’s no doubt he’ll be aiming to run inside the top ten of the MX2 World Championship.
