Team Australia discuss 2023 Ernee MXoN

The Australian team are one of the favourites for this years Motocross Des Nations and the Chamberlain trophy with such a strong rider line up.

The team discussed the event at this years press conference ahead of qualifying day tomorrow.

Michael Byrne (team manager): I mean this is a little easier (than RedBud) with it being Jett’s second time but Hunter and Dean are veterans at this. It’s kind of unique as all three guys are championships so expectations are high so they want to put their best foot forward to do their best.

Jett Lawrence: You know, its a lot different the mentality coming into this weekend, I mean last year was just let’s see where we end up but this one is more of a magnifying glass on the front, lead area. We will see how it goes, I haven’t raced these guys since last year but it is going to be exciting. Obviously my season this year has been unreal winning the 250cc class SX title and then going undefeated outdoors on the 450cc. I never thought it would happen, it is sick and hopefully we can keep it going this weekend on the outdoor side of things. The SuperMotocross thing, the tracks there were different but it was an unreal season for sure.

At this point, I have lived with the pressure going the perfect season. I was going every weekend asking if I would get beat but this is a bit different, it’s a team sport kind of thing but what I can do is go out there with the single digit number going 1-1 and hopefully it gives us the best chance of a podium or on top of the box for Team Australia. I will be trying my best. The situation is awesome but I mean we haven’t gone perfect in Supercross yet so it could always be better. Right now is great but we can always be better – the bike and myself can be better. We are going really good and I hope we can use that to our advantage and put Australia up there.

Hunter Lawrence: I am feeling good and happy to be here. It has been a while since we’ve been back in Europe. It is fun catching up with friends and family we have here so it is cool. I think this place is so unique because the track is on the hill with the big viewing section it’s like watching a movie on a big projector screen. The track is similar with the big down hills, it will be fun. I have to look after it (his back) but it is a lot better than what it was last week so it’s getting better and better each day so it is good. I just have to get through tomorrow and save it all up for the two moto’s on Sunday when it counts.

Dean Ferris: I’ve done a few of these but trying to elevate Jett, I don’t know if I can bring much to support him. I’ve done a few and kind of know how it rolls. I’ve done a few and look, starts are going to be important and mine are good. I was Aussie champion this year and riding to a good level so I am stoked to get the third spot on the team. When you come all the way from Australia it is just important to show up and do your best. For sure it is good to be back in Europe, it’s been a long time since I’ve been here now and so many familiar faces and friends I haven’t seen for a long time so it is awesome to walk around the paddock and catch up with everyone today.
