Mikkel Haarup’s future has been the subject of much speculation since the conclusion of the 2024 MX2 World Championship, where he secured a career-best fifth-place championship finish.

Having aged out of the MX2 class, the young Dane was left without a clear path for the 2025 season. However, it appears that a plan is falling into place – one that could see him take on a completely new challenge in America.

Haarup has already signed a unique deal with Triumph Racing to compete in MXGP, but not until 2026, as the factory 450cc machine is still in development and not yet race-ready. This left many wondering what the 23-year-old would do in the interim. Recent developments suggest that Haarup has set his sights on the AMA Pro Motocross Championship in 2025, competing in the 250cc class.

Currently in the United States, Haarup is believed to be preparing for the outdoor season, which kicks off in late May. There have also been whispers that he may have planned to compete in the 250cc Supercross series but suffered an injury while preparing. This setback may have delayed his debut in the American scene, but all signs point to him being ready for the AMA Nationals which get underway in May.

This move would not only provide Haarup with valuable race time and experience outside of the MXGP paddock, but it could also set him up as a contender for strong results in the competitive 250cc class in America. With his proven speed and determination, don’t be surprised to see the Danish talent running at the sharp end of the field against the best young and experienced talent in the U.S.

As Haarup prepares for what could be an exciting detour in his career, fans will be eagerly watching to see how he adapts to American racing before making his much-anticipated MXGP debut in 2026.
