RUMOUR: Maddii Racing to run an MX2 GP Honda team in 2026?

The Maddii Racing team have been one of the busiest and most talked-about outfits in the paddock over the past couple of years, largely due to their role in bringing Ducati into the world of motocross. The Italian squad were entrusted with spearheading the manufacturer’s long-awaited arrival to the sport, and it’s fair to say they’ve already achieved some impressive milestones.

After celebrating domestic success last year when Alessandro Lupino clinched the Italian Championship on the Ducati, Maddii Racing then took the bold step into MXGP this season. The challenge of developing a brand-new bike at the highest level of motocross is enormous, but with Jeremy Seewer’s experience and Mattia Guadagnini youth, the project has already had some good moments.

Seewer, a proven podium contender in MXGP, has twice put Ducati on the box in its debut season — a great achievement in what is year one of the MXGP project. Guadagnini also showed strong form at the start of the year before injury disrupted his progress. These flashes of success have underlined the hard work and technical expertise within the Maddii camp.

However, the landscape is set to change in 2026. As previously reported, Louis Vosters is expected to assume control of the Ducati MXGP project moving forward. This development has left Maddii Racing needing to find a new path in order to stay active at the world championship level.

The latest paddock whispers suggest that Maddii Racing are preparing to make a switch to Honda machinery from 2026 onwards. With JM Racing’s exit from their Honda partnership at the end of the 2025 season, an opportunity has opened up for Maddii Racing to take on the manufacturer’s presence in the MX2 World Championship.

If the move materialises, it would mark a significant shift in focus for the Italian outfit. After over two years concentrating exclusively on Ducati’s 450cc effort, the team would step into the highly competitive MX2 World Championship. The structure is expected to involve two GP riders in MX2, with the possibility of also supporting an EMX250 rider as part of their development programme.

This approach would mirror the pathway many successful teams have adopted — combining top-level MX2 racing with a strong European platform to nurture young talent. The question that remains is just how much direct HRC support the team would receive.

Another intriguing detail is that this project is believed to be led by Marco Maddii. His father, Corrado, has long been a respected figure in the sport, but there are hints that he could be involved in a separate new project within the paddock — though details are yet to be confirmed.

At this stage, the move remains an unconfirmed rumour, but all signs point towards significant changes for 2026. Should it come together, the switch would allow Maddii Racing to remain in the world championship while taking on a fresh challenge.

As ever in MXGP, the paddock landscape can shift quickly, but the prospect of Maddii Racing flying the Honda flag in MX2 next year would certainly add another fascinating storyline to an already evolving championship picture.
