Coming into the 2025 season, there was plenty of excitement surrounding Dutch talent, Cas Valk. After impressing in the EMX250 Championship, the opportunity finally arrived for him to step up to the MX2 World Championship.

The Van Venrooy team, who had been absent from the paddock in 2024, also made their return this season with a new focus. Having previously concentrated on MXGP, the team shifted gears and fully committed to MX2 with Valk as their main focus. Another change came with their switch to KTM machinery – a first for the squad.

The season started brightly for both Valk and Van Venrooy KTM. The rookie quickly showed speed, battling inside the top five and regularly finishing in the top ten. While the results tapered off slightly towards the end of the year, overall it was a strong debut campaign that proved Valk belongs at this level.

However, question marks now surround his future. Valk and the team had intended to contest the final overseas rounds in China and Australia, but following the Turkish GP, it has been confirmed they will not make the trip. That decision effectively brings Valk’s rookie MX2 season to an early close.

Adding to the uncertainty, Turkey may also have marked Valk’s last appearance in Van Venrooy KTM colours. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but his future beyond 2025 remains unclear. What is certain is that Valk possesses the raw speed and potential to become a consistent top-five rider in MX2 in the years ahead.

As for the Van Venrooy team, there are also doubts about their next move. They are still expected to continue their MX2 programme but there are whispers they may also return to the MXGP class with a 450cc rider. At this stage, all options appear to be on the table.
