After Simon Längenfelder wrapped up the 2025 MX2 World Championship title, it meant both Kay de Wolf and Andrea Adamo still had the option to remain in the class as both haven’t yet aged out – there is a rule that a rider who wins two MX2 world titles is forced out of the class.

However, Husqvarna have already confirmed that de Wolf will step up to the MXGP World Championship for 2026, marking his rookie season in the premier class.

Now, rumours in the paddock suggest that Adamo could follow suit. The Italian is said to be preparing for a move to MXGP next year, taking on a new challenge and adding more young talent to the premier division. As previously reported, Adamo is expected to sign a new two-year contract with KTM, giving him the 2026 season to adapt as a rookie before aiming for higher in 2027.

With Jeffrey Herlings expected to join Honda HRC and depart the KTM setup for 2026, questions naturally arise over who will line up alongside Adamo. Längenfelder – fresh off his first world title and a heavy favourite to defend it – is expected to move teams but remain within the KTM Group structure. If the move happens, the German will work closely with Joel Smets, who took over as team manager ahead of the 2025 MXGP campaign.

Marc-Antoine Rossi who has suffered from injuries since signing his factory contract with the KTM Group is expected to move on. The talented French rider has been linked with the Maddii Racing team who are expected to run Honda machinery in 2026 – a final decision needs to be main if he’ll race MX2 or EMX250.

Meanwhile, the De Carli-run factory KTM outfit will continue fielding the Coenen twins in 2026 – Lucas in MXGP and Sacha in MX2 – with both aiming for championship glory.

If the rumours prove true, Adamo’s graduation to MXGP alongside de Wolf will add another layer of intrigue to the 2026 season. The premier class would see an injection of fresh talent, while the MX2 field opens up for the next wave of young stars to battle at the front.
