Andrea Adamo, who knows exactly what it takes to win a World Championship after his 2023 title success, is once again in the thick of the MX2 title hunt this season. The Italian has already won more GP’s this year than he did during his championship-winning campaign, though his consistency in 2023 proved crucial in securing his maiden crown.
Fresh from finishing second overall at the Czech GP in Loket – including a dominant race two victory – Adamo currently sits 47 points behind Simon Längenfelder in the standings. While that may seem like a big gap, in motocross anything can happen, and this title race could still have plenty of twists left.
Should Adamo close the gap and claim a second MX2 World Championship, he’ll be forced to step up to the MXGP class for 2026. However, if he falls short of the crown, he’ll remain eligible to race MX2 for another year – if he chooses to.
We understand that Adamo will be staying orange regardless of which class he contests next year, with reports indicating he’s already put pen to paper on a new contract that keeps him on KTM machinery for at least the next two seasons. Locking down the Italian is a major move for the Austrian manufacturer, given his growing stature as one of the sport’s brightest young stars.
We asked Factory KTM team manager, Joel Smets about Adamo and the 450cc where he stated the following:
“He has been riding a bit of 450, of course, because at some stage they all need to move. He has one more year in the 250 class if he wants it. We haven’t fully decided yet whether he’s going to do 250 or 450, but let’s say we are ready for both. And maybe pure technically, if you compare for example with Kay or Simon, he’s maybe just one step down pure technically riding-wise, but he’s very smart with his riding. He has good line choices, the times I’ve seen him ride on the 450, he’s pretty good with the throttle control and stuff like that. I liked it, even if he would go 450 already in 2026, I’m pumped to see how he’s doing.”
Adamo himself was asked about the looming decision during the post-Loket press conference and admitted he’s hoping the championship result decides his fate for him:
“When you go training with the 450cc I have been really careful because it is during the season. You ride more for fun… For next year let’s hope I don’t have to make the choice (laughs).”
With a new contract reportedly secured and both MX2 and MXGP pathways open, all eyes will be on Adamo as he fights to close the points gap and potentially shape his 2026 destiny.
