Roczen on being in title contention again!

An honest and articulate Ken Roczen was still in a bit of disbelief after his second win in a row left him just five points down on Hunter Lawrence and Eli Tomac with just five rounds to go in the 2026 AMA Supercross chase.

Roczen, who has the momentum at this point in the season, said he never ecpected to be back in this position: “Honestly, at one point, I never thought I would be in this position again. Even once I started racing after my arm injuries, you know, it just… I didn’t feel the same physically, mentally, there were just a few years where it just was tough.

And sometimes when you’re at the bottom like that, it’s just… it’s way harder to dig yourself out of that, you kno?. So, yeah, the hard truth. I never thought I would be in this position again, but part of me also believeda aAnd I don’t know…here we are. This is kind of new to me too, right? So I’m just enjoying every bit of it and a lot of work has been put in by my team, by me personally. And I’m just thankful to be in this position. And like I said, if it goes south, so be it, you know, I really have nothing to lose.

And Roczen is also giving a lot of the credit to his wife and kids for keeping his motivation high with the bond they have: “We’ve been dating since 2014. And she’s seen me through, you know, left, right, up, down, like all angles of me, right? So it’s a bond in general with our family, right? Like Griff’s almost six now, which is wild for me to think about. We have a really strong bond and we’re really doing this together. And honestly, I believe that if I didn’t have the kids, I don’t know if I’d still be racing, to be honest.”

On being back in title contention, Roczen is trying not to look at the points and just race each race as it comes. Ken said: “Let’s start off with the points. I mean, of course, it’s hard to ignore when you cut down the points, but Larry keeps telling me, don’t even look at the points, just go race and I really try to do that

“But so it’s fun. I’m honestly just so thankful to be in this position is really, you know, I haven’t been in this position this late in the season in a Supercross championship at all. So I’m just really enjoying every minute of it.Doesn’t matter what anybody says out there. Like I’m obviously the one racing and even if it goes south, like it’s been really cool ride so far. And like I said, I try not to look at the points too much.”

It already is the coolest story of the year and to be in contention at 32 years old on a Suzuki thay hasn’t changed since 2018 with kick-start and to battle back from those horrible injuries, Roczen already deserves all our respect.

But now he really has a chance to win the title he has always dreamed of but probably never believed was really realistic after that gruesome 2017 crash. It really would be a Holywood movie!
