During the fifth round of the French sand championship, it has been confirmed that Raphaël Cholet has tragically lost his life.
We would like to send our best regards to his family and anybody who was close to him during these tough times.
The organizers posted the following press release:
It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Raphaël Cholet following a tragic accident that occurred during the Gurp TT in Grayan-et-L’Hôpital (33), the fifth round of the Motoblouz French Sand Championship.
Immediately taken into care by the emergency services and then airlifted to Pellegrin University Hospital in Bordeaux, the rider passed away on Sunday evening as a result of his injuries. Licensed with the Moto-Club du Littoral, Raphaël, aged 21, was competing in the full championship for the second consecutive year. It is the first time since the creation of the French Sand Championship around fifteen years ago that a fatal accident has occurred during an event. The race, initially neutralised, was ultimately cancelled.
The French Motorcycling Federation, the Moto-Club des Esteys, as well as the entire CFS family (sand racing commission, promoters, partners, manufacturers and riders), share in the grief of Raphaël’s loved ones and extend their most sincere condolences to his family. The entire motorcycling community has been deeply shaken by this tragedy.
