Race results: AMA Supercross RD2 – San Diego

Cooper Webb took the holeshot as Chase Sexton narrowly avoided being landed on on the triple mid-pack only to crash in the turn before the whoops and have to come from last! Jett Lawrence and Eli Tomac then went at just inside the top five with Tomac getting the edge before both pulled their way up to 1-2 and the race was on between Jett and Tomac for the win!

Lawrence picked up his pace and caught Tomac as they pulled away from the battle for third between Roczen and Webb, the pace was high and Jett was not letting Tomac go! A contrast in styles with Tomac going wide and Jett in tight but the pace was equal and the fans enthralled as the time ticked down.

With three laps to go Tomac eeked out the smallest gap but Jett would not go away, one lap to go and Jett was giving it everything but Tomac kept him at bay to take his first win of the year in a generational battle that had the crowd on it’s feet!

Cooper Webb held off a fast Roczen for third while Chase Sexton charged all the way back to sixth in great ride just behind Hunter Lawrence.

Cole Davies took the holeshot in the 250 class from Julien Beaumer but, halfway, through the main event Beaumer eventually made his move for the lead with Haiden Deegan on the charge after gating at the back end of the top ten. Deegan had crashed in his heat (see below) and gave himself work to do in the main but a mistake by Davies saw Deegan into fourth with 7 minutes to go and the chase was on.

A big mistake by Di Francesco let Deegan into third as Beaumer upped the pace to try and keep his gap over Smith and a charging Deegan. Ultimately Smith did a good job keeping Beamer in sight and that kept Deegan at bay and as Beaumer took control of the championship with the first win of his career! Davies got Di Francesco for fourth on the line for his best result of his short career with a brave Shimoda braving the pain of two broken fingers for seventh.

But Deegan now has his work cut out now with Julien Beaumer for this title. 250 West is not the cakewalk that was expected!
