A very honest Jorge Prado still isn’t 100% confident he will be getting the holeshot this weekend, and admits he doesn’t have his real speed yet on the Kawasaki. But he does feel more progress has been made this week as he strives to get back to the level he was riding in 2024.
Jorge told Lewis Phillips: “Well, we are doing small steps. I feel like this week we make another step in the right direction. All the steps are small but the good thing is we’re making progress. The bad thing would be we don’t progress, but we do. We do get better every week so I’m happy with that. The team and myself, we are pushing very hard to get where we belong and it’s just a matter of time. So hopefully tomorrow I can feel more comfortable and we can push it a little bit more.
“Last year, I didn’t have any problems (passing) going through the field in MXGP. I won Sweden first moto .I started 20th, or 15th, and I won the moto. So, I wouldn’t say I had any problems. So, I think I got better. And even last weekend at Hangtown, I came, you know, from the back, making some passes. And because I don’t have my real speed, it also makes it harder for me. But, yeah, we are getting there. As I get more comfortable with the bike, I will get faster. And as I get faster, it will be easier to pass also. And hopefully, we don’t need to pass because then we start in the front. So, no, my main goal right now is to feel comfortable with the bike and get, again, good starts like I used to.
But Prado is enjoying the AMA tracks more than MXGP: “Everybody’s like, oh, Pala, Hangtown, they’re not the greatest. These are probably better than any track I’ve raced in the past, you know?! Hangtown is super fun to race and to ride. Bigger jumps, fast track, you can go outside, inside. It’s actually fun to ride, and this one (Colorado) looks even better.“
