Top WMX contender, Sara Andersen has announced she has decided to make the tough decision and step away from the sport – she will continue to ride for fun but her racing career is over.

It’s a shame as she had potential to run at the front of WMX but she had to make the decision due to the financial side.

We would like to wish her all the best with her future and still hope to see her in the paddock.

Andersen posted the news on social media:

It’s time to say goodbye. I love this sport, and saying goodbye to my dreams and the sport I love is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make. I love racing but there is a financial side to the sport that I can no longer keep up with.

Motocross has always been a part of my life, and I don’t know life without it. I am so thankful for both the good and the bad I have been through, and for all the people I’ve met on my way. I may not have achieved my ultimate goal, but I have come a long way. From being a little girl from a country where most people don’t even know what motocross is, to be battling with the best women in the world.

No matter the results, I can say that I worked extremely hard and did everything I could with the opportunities I had. To be among the best women in the world for so many years, despite always having to manage other things on the side, is something I am very proud of.

Some of my proudest moments are becoming the first ever FIM Women’s European Champion as 15 year-old on a 125cc against 250cc. Standing on the podium at the World Championship at age 18 as the first, and so far only, Danish female rider. And after struggling for years, getting back on that same podium was something very special.

22 seasons, 3 European Championships, 11 National Championships and a lot of other victories and unforgettable moments that I in time will look back on with pride.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to my parents, my brother, and the rest of my family for supporting me my entire life. Thank you to my competitors who became friends and made the hard times easier and the good times even better. Thank you to all my sponsors over the years, and to everyone who supported me and believed in me. I would never have come this far without you. It’s been hard, but I would do it all over again.

Thank you. Despite ending my “professional” career, I will still be part of Wozniak Racing Team and Yamaha Scandinavia. Knowing that I can still have fun on a bike from time to time makes this big change easier and the next chapter of my life brighter. For that, I feel extremely lucky and thankful.
