Sampo Rainio has officially announced that he is stepping away from competitive Motocross racing, bringing an 18-year racing career to a close.

The Finnish rider has enjoyed a long and varied journey in the sport, gaining valuable experience across the EMX classes and lining up at selected MX2 World Championship events. One of the standout moments of his career came when he represented Finland at the Motocross of Nations, a proud achievement for Rainio and a highlight of his time in the paddock.

However, with the ever-increasing costs involved in racing at an international level, Rainio has made the difficult decision to call time on his motocross career. While stepping away was not an easy choice, it marks the end of an important chapter after nearly two decades dedicated to the sport.

We would like to wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.

Rainio posted the news on social media:

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. Thank you, Motocross. After a difficult decision I have decided to step out of Motocross as I can’t afford the costs involved anymore. Motocross was my life for 18 years but now it’s time for something new”.

“A huge thank you to my family, sponsors, friends, everyone involved. Thank you to my coach Joonas Kuisma. Thank you Snellman Motosport for giving me one last opportunity. Without you this all wouldn’t have been possible. Thanks for all the sacrifices you made”.

“I deeply respect everyone who lives and breathes this sport day in and day out. I know what it is and how it can be at times. SR42”.
