Race one: There was some chaos which involved some of the heavy hitters during the start. Valerio Lata had to come from the very back of the pack and Jens Walvoort retired. At the front, it was Jakabs Kubulins who was leading on his JK Yamaha 250cc two stroke machine. He had Noel Zanocz for company but then the Hungarian crashed.
That left Scott Smulders to go for the lead but then Simon Längenfelder who started on the top five gradually started to reel them in. At around the halfway mark, the reigning world champion was able to make a move on Kubulins and then he never looked back. Smulders who is having a very impressive pre-season was able to make a move to finish an impressive second. No doubt Kubulins will be delighted with third place.
Alexis Fueri rode well on his Beta to come home in fourth with Cas Valk rounding out the top five.
Race Two: Kubulins took another holeshot – he’s going to be dangerous in the EMX250 class this year if he continues to get out of the gate like that. This time, Lata was able to get a good start and got himself to the front quite quickly to pull away from the rest of the pack.
Kubulins had a crash which dropped him down to fifth but it was still enough to get on the podium. Längenfelder took his time to come through the pack, he was sixth on the first lap and by the time he got into second he had over a ten second gap to make up to Lata. But that’s exactly what he did gaining and catching Lata before making a move stick – impressive and a lovely style to watch.
Valk came home in third on his TM to end up second overall on the day. A shout out to Jens Walvoort who was having a great ride in second for most the moto but ended up with a DNF with a smoking machine.
