Lucas Coenen had the chance to make a 26 point deficit 22 points if he executed the pass he pulled out of on Romain Febvre on the last lap of moto two in Turkey.
It was a move Paul Malin even said he would have went for with the title on the line, but just when it looked like Coenen would pull the trigger, he chose to be nice, not nasty. And, while admirable, it cost the 18 year old Belgian four points in the title chase.
Coenen regretted his decision immediately after the race saying: “Not much to say, the beginning of the weekend was good until the second moto started. I went a bit early (on the gate) and came from the back. In the end I wanted to push but I was a bit shy in the last lap, I could have ran into him, that’s racing. I had one opportunity and didn’t do it, it is frustrating. Now it’s on, two rounds to go, we will give everything we have.”
