He is the teenage phenomenon taking MXGP by storm but Lucas Coenen and brother Sacha have their sight set beyond the GP scene!
Lucas has risen to the top incredibly fast. A GP win at 16 then coming back as the world championship runner-up in MX2 at 17 and then runner-up in MXGP by 18 in an astonishingly impressive level of raw speed, before chasing Jett Lawrence around at the MXoN in a rapid rise to prominence.
As a consequence, both Lucas and Sacha come into 2026 with world championships to win in MXGP and MX2 respectively but, while the short-term goal is to win in MXGP, the long term goal remains America!
Speaking to MXMag Lucas said: “America is the goal. Supercross. That’s for sure. When exactly, we’ll see. But the direction is crystal clear.” With Sacha agreeing: “Yes, that’s the plan for both of us. First do the work here, then go to America!”
On riding Supercross after the MXoN Lucas said: “We rode supercross, soaked up the atmosphere. You know it’s big — but when you’re actually there and see how many people come… that’s when you really get it. (grins) I restrained myself from staying too long, otherwise I almost wouldn’t have come back!”
On the Lawrence brothers Lucas said: “The difference isn’t that big. They’re absolutely world-class, but they’re also a bit older and more experienced. You can always learn, of course.”
