After an absolutely dramatic MX2 title fight that saw Simon Längenfelder taken out in both motos by Kay de Wolf and at one point back in 13th and losing the title in a downpour of torrential rain in moto two, only for the tables to be flipped again as Kay de Wolf suffered a mechanical DNF while running second with the leader in his sights ended his hopes of defending the world championship and handing title to Längenfelder!
The rain became so bad that the red flag came out and De Wolf was still credited with fifth somehow but Längenfelder took the the title in one of the most dramatic endings to a world championship in the history of the sport!
A delighted yet disbelieving Längenfelder said: “I can’t believe it, I was sure it gone! Then I saw Kay in front of me and I couldn’t believe it. I never expected that, I can’t realise this, it was so far gone in one moment – thanks God! So much happened in the last race, somehow I brought it home, somehow it worked, so happy!

A disconsolate De Wolf: “It is what it is. I gave it all, no regrets, I did everything I could. I am proud of myself. I was 70 points back after England so everything we have done was amazing. It’s a bummer that it ended up raining, my dream fell apart. It is what it is, I showed I was a champion and I wanted to end it like a champion but it couldn’t make it happen. Next year I will bounce back.”
