Racing your home Grand Prix is always a special moment, but for Kay de Wolf, the occasion was made even more memorable thanks to a unique collaboration that combined Motocross and football. The Dutch MX2 title contender lined up in Arnhem with a specially designed kit inspired by PSV Eindhoven, his favourite football club, and revealed the story behind how the idea came together.

“In the end, it turned out to be a pretty easy one. I was just joking with my physio. He’s also the head physio of PSV. He said, can you do it because he has no clue about motorsports. For him it goes way too fast and it’s way too scary. He was here this morning to be at my side because he had a match yesterday. They were finished a bit too late to still come yesterday evening but he came today.”

The link with PSV provided the perfect opportunity for de Wolf to showcase something different at his home race, and with the support of Fox Racing, the collaboration became reality.

“He asked me if I can you do whatever I wanted with the gear. I said, we need to see a little bit colour-wise and everything, but, all in all, I can pretty much do whatever I would like. I then made a deal with Fox that for my home GP that we could make a PSV kit. We got a few emails with PSV, and they sent the full sketch of the PSV shirt and how it should be. It turned out to be a really nice collaboration and it was amazing to film at the stadium as well.”

It wasn’t just about the gear either – the project extended to creating some special content around the launch which saw him do some filming at the PSV stadium.

“Together with Rick Hirsch we went to the stadium and filmed some really cool clips. I was really excited about this.”

For de Wolf, racing at home in colours inspired by his club gave him added motivation in front of the Dutch fans. It was a unique crossover between two sports which is always cool to see.
