Jett Lawrence on that pass on Justin Cooper at RedBud

Jett Lawrence had pass of the year so for the lead at Red Bud as he double-bluffed Justin Cooper and railed around the outside of the Star Yamaha rider to take the lead after remouning back in 18th after a fall on lap one!

Jett said of the pass while speaking on the AC &JB podcast: “I found it earlier, (the line) it was a sketchy moment, I came in way too fast in that dip to go to the finish line jump, it was a sketchy moment that turned into a really good line, I kind of land on top of those ruts that would all cut back to the right side and it kind of flattened the line and made a nice rut around all the hard pack slick stuff and thise two main ruts, it was prime.

“I’m like, it’s not a bad line, because if someone takes outside they are stuck on the inside, they can’t really defend at all. The move of Cooper, I got it clean and commited to it, got to the outside point and the only thing I had to be aware of was hitting that bank and not coming across on JCoop but once I got it, I chuckled, because I can’t believe I pulled that off cleanly!”

On his mental strength and how he thinks on track, he said: “All I can do is control the now…focussing on my now. When I get to my situation I will deal with it, what my instinct tell me. On the start gate I am not trying to think too much about the race, I am thinking about the start, making sure I execute this feeling, this feeling, this feeling. I kind of know my riding, I don’t think too much in the lap side of thing. I rely more on instinct with that because I trust my instincts a lot and whatever happens will happen, I feel like I can trust myself with that part. All I control is my start and try to execute that and if we are second, third, fifth sixth, tenth and we go from there.”
