Jett Lawrence admits he is still shooting for Jeremy McGrath’s all-time supercross win record of 72 – but he is focusing on the year to year goals in a bid to get there eventually!

At the recent press event at Anaheim Jett showed his maturity and intelligence saying: “Yeah, I think that’s (McGrath’s record of 72 wins) obviously a long-term goal. But if I focus on that and that only, I’m not ever going to get there because there’s so many other pieces that have to fall into place to get there. And it’s obviously going to take a lot of years.

“My goal right now is that I want to make sure I make it through all the races and both seasons. Last two years, I’ve gone out with injury in outdoors and then supercross. So I want to make through both series because, technically, I haven’t really done a full series on a 450 yet. So I think that’s my main goal and the results will do whatever they want to do. I’m going to get results I want, I’m going to get results I don’t want. So that’s part of racing. But my main goal I want to focus on is being in every race.”

It’s small steps to greatness and Lawrence is not getting carried away. Jett is going back to basics, just wanting to stay injury free but that is in part what helped McGrath get that record. MC was hardly ever injured and was ever present at the races and chasing that record might just help keep Jett motivated and sticking around in the sport longer in order to meet that goal of beating the King’s record.

But first things first and Jett has to take on Tomac on the KTM, Sexton on the Kawasaki, his own brother hitting his prime years and a stubborn defending champion in Cooper Webb as well as Ken Roczen, in order to add to his tally of wins and supercross titles.
