Jett Lawrence on a flawless win at Pala

Jett Lawrence was in impeccable form to win both motos at Pala and make a massive statement to the world that he is back to his best already after five months out of race action!

Lawrence spoke after the press conference about his recovery, and not letting the other distractions (like Lucas Mirtl) affect his racing.

“It was a long recovery,” said Jett. “I found out painkillers suck because everyone’s body kind of reacts differently to them obviously I don’t take any drugs or anything like that so it’s like when you put something like that in your body your body kind of freaks out a bit at first and it was going through the pain in my knee so, it was some ups ups and downs but thankfully I had my brother, he was there, so we spent some some weeks there together thankfully and we had a had a each other’s company so it made a little bit funnier.

“But no, it was good, it kind of was good mentally building and sitting on the couch – it just sucks. I mean I didn’t miss the mud races I can tell you that but all the other race where the tracks are fine, I definitely wish I was out there but to go do that today, I’m super pumped.

“Obviously had lots of distractions and stuff that was out of my hands and it was just good to show up and be able to block that out and just kind of focus on business and take care of it.”

On coming back to the races and not appearing to miss a bit Jett said: “I think we did enough riding hours during the week that we kind of like I felt pretty kind of okay with my leg. Obviously any dabbing and that stuff you honestly, it’s kind of like PTSD, you don’t want to dab it or anything so you’re like kind of holding it up but no, it’s not too bad.

“After a little bit, you kind of get used to it and know the feeling of everything. So when you come back, obviously the build-up you’re excited race again, but kind of once the gate drops and you go through the moto and then, all right, you haven’t done in so long, but you just know what you got to do in between because you’ve done it so many times. So I think it’s kind of you just go into habits again, I have to go do this go recover for the next moto, do this this and this ,so it’s not as challenging as you think just because we go back on muscle memory really.”

Jett then commented on the outpouring of emotion after the win: “I think obviously the mental battle with the knee. I mean…the only other major injury I had was my thumb and when you look at that kind of scarring compared to my knee, it ain’t nothing you know? It was only six weeks with my thumb and I could still train and stuff like that, whereas with the knee I had to sit on the couch for most of the time. It’s hard to do anything and that mental battle….and then obviously other distractions that can take you off your game. But just with all the noise and stuff like that is out of our control and stuff like that, it’s just nice to get back to the race and shut it out.

“It’s kind of like all that emotion that’s being built up, trying to get better and trying to get stronger and fit enough, because you’re not with any of the competition, but obviously with Hunter, and are we fit and strong, you don’t know until you get to the race. Yeah, I think that one there was just obviously all the emotions that built up over time of being injured and all the other this nonsense that we’re dealing with and it’s kind of was just really good to kind of step on their throats (critics).”
