Is Joey Savatgy underrated?

He is always fast but never quite gets the credit he deserves and even WSX title rival Jason Anderson said publicly Joey Savatgy is underrated, so we asked Joey on press day at San Diego if he believes he is underrated despite having no real weakness in riding.

Joey said: “Well, I mean, on one hand of course, a little bit, but on the other hand if I want that respect, more credit, I need to do better, right? That’s the harsh reality of our sport. I’m torn, for sure. Obviously, I am very confident of my ability on a motorcycle, but if I want more respect and more credit, results need to come with it, so that part is up to me.”

And just one day later Joey delivered on the results part with a brilliant fifth place in a stacked field, he was even closing to on Chase Sexton in the final couple of laps. Savatgy did what he said he had to do and he deserves every bit of credit he gets.

Savatgy said of his performance in San Diego: “It was good. I did everything I had been talking about all week, I give myself an opportunity to be at the front. I have always believed in my ability, results always haven’t shown but I still believe I am good on the motorcycle and I can near the front.

I’m proud of myself. Sometimes, when you feel like you keep getting kicked for the amount of effort I put in, you don’t always have the results that I want which, sometimes it’s hard not to be hard on myself. I have this mentality this year of set a realistic goal and let’s try to achieve that as many times as we can and we will see what comes from that. I believe this area I was in tonight is achievable week-in, week-out if can execute the start and put myself up front.”
