Kay de Wolf has had a dream season. The just turned 20 year old super talent followed up his first world title by winning the MX2 class at the MXoN by going 5-5 in the combined motos on Sunday. And it could have been even better with De Wolf up two third in his second moto and catching Fernandez and even, at times matching Jett’s pace out front. A couple of crashes restricted De Wolf to fifth but he did his job on the MX2 machine to end his season on a high.

Now De Wolf will ride a 450 next week against Herlings in Holland, and then head to the USA to ride some supercross as a reward for his superb season in 2024. We caught up briefly with De Wolf after the press conference to get his thoughts on the day and a superb season for one of the most exciting riders to watch in the sport.

Brilliant end to a brilliant season for you. Just talk about today quickly your speed. You probably could have got second in that second moto, but top five on a 250, biggest race of the year, a stacked field. How did that feel?

Yeah, I showed great speed in that moto. I was really happy. So, yeah, what you said I got up to almost got up to second and then I tipped over, tipped over a few more times So yeah, it wasn’t good, but at least the result was all weekend long I showed great speed once again getting the 250 title, two gold plates, it was amazing.

And you seemed to have a really good feeling with the track all weekend. Did you just feel the flow as soon as you stepped on the track?

Yeah, the first time we got on the track was straight away quite rough and quite bumpy. Yeah, I felt pretty good and showed good speed all day.

And were you looking at Tom Vialle, AMA and former world champion, to beat him, to show the speed like you and Lucas were. Unbelievable all weekend, speed wise!

I just wanted to beat everyone, even the 450 guys. So I just give it all every single moto.

Talk about that world title. How did that feel? Has it sunk in yet? You’ve almost pretty much the perfect season riding with pressure, but you got the job done.

Yeah, it was amazing. I think this is almost a perfect season except from not being first with anyone else. So yeah from my side, it’s been an amazing perfect season.

Did you feel pressure all year with the red plate or did you feel calm because you always sort of had a you’re a bit Like Prado last year you were managing it?

No, I was managing it all year. I felt really comfortable and I wasn’t stressing all the time.

Ruben was saying you’ve got a wee present coming up. You’re going to America to ride some supercross. Are you looking forward to that?

Yeah, I’m flying over soon to America to ride some supercross.

And how do you feel that’ll go do you think you’ve got the aptitude for it?

I’ve never done it. So it’s gonna be all new and let’s see what happens.

And finally, Mitch Payton said he’s gonna keep an eye on you, he would like you to go to Pro Circuit in the future. Obviously, you don’t know what you’re doing yet, but how does it feel that someone like him have his eye on you because he rates you so highly?

Yeah, it’s amazing, that someone like Mitch, yeah, see’s potential in me. So yeah, I’m grateful for that, really kind.

De Wolf later spoke to Vital MX man, Lewis Philips, and had this to say about Deegan: “I’ve showed I’m the fastest rider in the world right now. I wish Deegan was here to compete against.”
