Doug Turney grabbed a quick chat with US legend and comeback kid at Budds Creek, Eli Tomac to talk about his return to racing, his goals at Budds Creek and the decision to race WSX this off-season.
“I feel good enough to be here, we will find out tomorrow how it really goes,” said Eli on his comeback. “It’s just nice to be back at the race, having two summers off, it kind of drove me a little bit crazy! So it’s good to be back at the outdoors.”
How long has he been back on the bike? “I think it’s been around three and a half weeks, somewhere in there I don’t know the exact date but I have been putting in a lot of good motos at home so I have done plenty of 30 plus two. Podiums would be nice and fighting for a win that’s the racers mindset – but shooting for a podium.”
On choosing to race WSX Eli said: “I am signed up for it so I get to do all four of the rounds there, it will be a busy fall for me. Number one is travelling the world and also just getting in races, I have had the summer off so it is the perfect time for me to get more races and kind of get back in the groove and it will be fun to check out new countries.”
