David Braceras finds himself in a frustrating position as the 2026 season approaches. After lining up what looked like a concrete ride to race the MX2 World Championship, the Spanish rider has seen those plans fall apart late in the off-season, leaving his future in the GP’s uncertain at a crucial moment in his career. With 2026 set to be his final year in MX2, time is very much of the essence.

Despite the setback, Braceras isn’t standing still. Backed by Triumph Spain for the MX2 Spanish Championship, he’s staying race-sharp, building momentum and keeping himself ready should an opportunity arise – whether that’s a last-minute GP ride, a fill-in role during the season, or even exploring national championships if needed. We caught up with Braceras as he opens up about the deal that collapsed, his impressions of the Triumph machinery, his determination to finish MX2 on a high, and why he believes his best years are still ahead of him.

GateDrop: David, I believe you did have a concrete option to race the MX2 World Championship in 2026 but you’ve just found out that has fallen through. Can you give us an update on your situation at the moment?

Braceras: The plan was to do the full GP season since the end of October/ the first weeks of November. Normally, I had a team that was going to come back to the GP’s and they found a sponsor and everything. Normally, they will start from zero, but they did say to me since day one that we will start late, but we will start. It was possible that we would miss the first round in Argentina, but then we will start the season. But in the end, we don’t start, nothing goes on, so now I don’t have any team to race the GP’s.

GateDrop: I believe you have secured Triumph support to race the MX2 Spanish Championship – so at least you have some plans, it could be worse!

Braceras: Luckily, I have the support from Triumph Spain. They made a good proposal to me to race the Spanish championship. At least I can have a bike to train and race so I can continue in good form to race if I have the opportunity to do the World Championship. I’m feeling really good and I’m really happy with the bike. The first impressions is that the frame is really good. I’m quite surprised about the bike, I adapted to the bike really quick. Luckily, I have them next to me and I can continue training hard and be ready when I have the chance to race the GP’s.

GateDrop: I know you really want to race the MX2 World Championship in 2026 as it’s your final year in the class – have you got anything on the table at the moment?

Braceras: Yes, I really want to do my last year racing the MX2 World Championship. MXGP is a really strong class and I feel like I can make a small step and be there a little bit more at the front of MX2. That’s why I want to do my final year in the class because I feel that I have the experience now. I’m stronger than before, I made a step to do some Supercross this winter, so I really want to have the opportunity for my last year in MX2. With a good bike, good people around me and the basics, I think I can be good this year. I will be ready when I have the opportunity.

GateDrop: The fact you are racing Triumph machinery in Spain – does that mean if you get something for the MX2 World Championship that it’ll have to be Triumph machinery or are you able to race with any brand outside Spain?

Braceras: Yes, I signed with Triumph Spain to race in Spain. Of course, if in the GP’s I can ride the same brand, it’s much better. But if I have the chance to race with another brand with a good team and everything and it’s a good opportunity, of course I can take it. Of course I need to do the Spanish championship, because they give me bikes, parts and everything when I have nothing. I will do the full championship from Spain. From the outside I can take the best opportunity that I can find.

GateDrop: If you can’t get a ride before the start of the season, will you be open to be a fill in rider during the season once someone gets injured?

Braceras: I don’t want that someone gets injured, but maybe during the season there are free spots. Sometimes not because of injuries but there can also be different things. So, whatever happens, if there is one free spot, of course I will take it and I will be more ready than ever to do good in my last year in MX2.

GateDrop: As well as Spain, if you can’t get an MX2 GP ride soon, would you consider National championship rides like the British or ADAC for example?

Braceras: I actually got some offers to race some championships, but because I normally had a team to race MX2 with, I said no to these proposals. In the end it was a little bit late so I couldn’t take it, but if I don’t have anything during the year to race the GP’s, of course I can do some ADAC and some other national championships. My priority right now is to race GP’s for sure.

GateDrop: You were recently in Costa Rica racing a 450cc, how was that event to race outside Europe and how did the day go racing the bigger bike?

Braceras: It was a really, really nice experience with good people. I met a lot of good people. It was really fun and it was the first time ever racing with the 450cc. I just rode one day before to the race. It was not easy but in the end I rode quite good and I enjoyed a lot to race with the 450cc. Everything there was completely different – different tracks, different people, different everything. I hope I can come this year again and have some fun.

GateDrop: What the next few weeks look like?

Braceras: I have two small races, but my first real race will be in Montearagón, the 14th of February which is the first round of the Spanish championship. I’m now trying to make a lot of testing to put the new bike the best as we can in this short time. But other than that the winter went really good. I did supercross, so I improved quite a lot my technique. I trained really hard physically, so I feel really good. Now I just need to put the bike on point and I will be ready for the first race. After, I will be more than ready if I get the chance to race the MX2 World Championship. Thank you for the interview and I hope to see you soon.
