Interview: Aaron Plessinger – A1 and overcoming health issues

Aaron Plessinger’s Anaheim 1 was going well until it wasn’t! The factory KTM rider ended up leading his heat race until his mate, Cooper Webb, took them both down! AP won the LCQ and came through the field to take 11th but his riding was better than the result.

We spoke to Aaron about the collision with Webb and how frustrating his health issues were last summer just when he was riding maybe the best he ever has.

An honest Plessinger said: “Yeah, it was very frustrating. But ultimately, after I got over being mad and just pissed off, I knew I was going to get back to the place. But there for two or three weeks, I was like, what’s going on? What’s wrong with me? Because it was like it was even tough to just get out of bed and just do normal day stuff.

“And I was just in a state of I don’t want to say depression, but like it was almost depression. Just like being up there and then not even like slowly working my way down. It was like a snap of a finger. I was done and that sucked.

On if he felt his fitness and health deteriorating before hand, AP said!:

“Not really. I got like a sinus infection. And then at Red Bud, that was the first time I’d felt like that ever. I think my body was just like telling me like, hey, dude, you’re done. I tried to do Spring Creek and it was the same deal.

“And after that, I was just like, it’s not really worth it to come out here and be a hazard to not only myself, but everybody else. Because if I took somebody out with me, if I went down and took somebody out with me, I would have had to really live with that.”
