Tommy Searle made the trip to Abu Dhabi at the weekend to take part in the World Tour finals of the Arenacross series, but unfortunately, his night ended in disaster following a big crash in the main event.
The Triumph rider was forced out of the race after a scary incident that brought out the red flag, and he was unable to line up for the restart. Now back home, Searle has shared an update on the injuries sustained in the crash — and unfortunately, it’s bad news with fractures to his back.
“Abu Dhabi Arenacross World Tour was great until it wasn’t…” Searle said. “Brushed past a hay bale that had been knocked into the track in the final and it got caught in my wheel then locked it up shortly after and that was all she wrote. I’ll have more checks now I’m home but after CT and MRI scans out there it looks as though I’ve some fractures to a couple vertebrae’s in my back — some old and some new — so I’ll see a specialist here to determine what’s what and how to go about it the next few weeks but it’s all stable which is good news.”
Despite the disappointment, Searle remained positive and thankful to his team and those who helped him throughout the trip.
“The Dirt Store Triumph Racing crew — Nick, Dylan, Jon and Paul — was a mega trip up until that. Thanks to Nick for getting me home safely. Lastly, an amazing event that Arenacross World Tour put on out there so fair play to them!”
It’s now a race against time for Searle with the next round of the British Championship just under two weeks away — a crucial double-header weekend on the calendar.
