While Hunter Lawrence wasn’t badly injured in his crash at Detroit he did admit he was dealing with a sore wrist that meant he was very satisfied to be third on podium and tie the points lead with Eli Tomac coming out of St. Louis in what was one of the most brutal tracks of the year.
With Roczen only five points back, even Hunter is excited for the end of season championship pressure! “I’m pretty happy, honestly, from what happened last week, how my wrist is feeling. I’m pretty happy. I think this track was arguably one of our gnarliest tracks, more so than Daytona or India or anything. It was pretty wild, honestly, how the bumps were and how kicky the jumps were and deep the ruts were. It was, yeah, it was gnarly. It was a really, really tricky track. So, I’m happy. How cool is it? Three of us so close, you know, tied red plate. We got five more races.”
Hunter said of his wrist: “Well, it just hurts and it like gives out when it has a big G out from last weekend. So nothing’s broken. It’s just obviously really sore and still swollen in the joint, but it was good enough to do it. What I could do today and honestly with how it was and ride much in the week, but like I’m really happy with how I’m leaving out of here.
Lawrence admitted he barely rode all week, saying: “Yeah, just a little bit Tuesday. Well, I mean maybe 10 minutes and then probably 15 minutes on Wednesday and just kind of a rehab week, you know,? Kind of when things are good and you’re healthy knocking them out, and that’s like the tricky part of this championship, it’s so long and when something ike that happens, you’ve only got four or five days to do as much as you can on it. But, all in all, I’m happy. I got a great team behind me and we’re in a great spot.”
Team manager Lars Lindstrom added: “I’m happy with Hunter’s race; if you’re going to race banged up, especially with a sore wrist, this is not the track you want to be racing at. It was absolutely brutal; Hutch and I had to walk the track afterwards, and that’s when they should have the fans walking the track. It blows my mind that the top guys are able to continue to do the rhythms and jump things out of turns when the track is that soft, rutted and destroyed. We’re satisfied with the result, happy to make up points and be tied for the red plate, but we definitely want more and look forward to battling for this championship to the end.”
