Jeffrey Herlings had to push hard in the final two laps to hold of a charging Tim Gajser as the two five-time world champions battled each other in the stifling heat and humidity for the overall win.
Herlings’ fighting spirit meant he held onto the win to clinch his 112th GP win as he continues to extend his GP win record.

After having several litres of water poured on him to cool down, Herlings said: “So hot, I was cooking to be honest. Managed to pull it off, it is so hot and incredibly humid, very pleased to go 1-1-1 over the weekend, I just hope it’s not as hot as this one!
“The speed was not the problem, I was just struggling with the heat, I just arrived on Friday and only had one day to adapt so hopefully the week to Australia, so hopefully in Australia I can handle it a bit better. For the people at home it’s unreal how hot it is here.”
