Forkner apologises for getting in Hunter Lawrence way at Anaheim

Having already been held up by lapped riders, Hunter Lawrence was having a last surge at Chase Sexton in the final couple of laps until Austin Forkner kept on the main line and blocked Lawrence chance at the win.

Forkner, who didnt race San Diego after a big crash in qualifying, apologised saying he didn’t realise it was Hunter and thought it was Shane McElrath battling for position!

Forkner said on Instagram: “Not the greatest A2, got taken out on lap 1 of the main and then riding was just decent after that. Definitely underestimated how much my kidney would hurt this weekend so that was a little rough, had to break out the kidney belt. Also that’s my bad for getting in the leaders way on the last lap, I had just been battling with Shane so when I saw a red bike I thought it was him and it took me longer than it should’ve to realize it wasn’t. Thanks to the team, onto Houston”

Hunter had mentioned being held up in his post race analysis: “I looked up and there was like six minutes left; I was like, ‘Alright, let’s empty the tank.’ I would’ve liked to see how the last two laps unfolded had there not been traffic with the two lapped riders. It’s been my best start of the season for Supercross, which is what I wanted to do. We’ve still got so many races to go. It’s been some really good racing.”
