The British Grand Prix has long been a cornerstone of the MXGP calendar, with Matterley Basin providing one of the best tracks on the calendar.
However, the future of the event remains uncertain as Infront Moto Racing continues to face challenges in securing its place on the schedule.
David Luongo, CEO of Infront Moto Racing, praised the efforts of the organisers and the unique appeal of the circuit, while also acknowledging the growing difficulties surrounding its continuation.
“Thanks to Steve and his team, their passion for the sport and energy, the British GP was able to take place over the last years. Matterley Basin is clearly one of the most beautiful and most appreciated track in the world. The fact is that it is more and more complicated to get the authorizations and the support from the local authorities for the Grand Prix in UK, for environmental reason mainly. Therefore we are also investigating into other options for the future to keep the British Grand Prix on the calendar. It is clearly our will to keep bringing the GP to the British fans”, Luongo told GateDrop.com.
With environmental restrictions and local government authorisations becoming more complex each year, the event’s sustainability in its current form is increasingly difficult to guarantee. While Matterley Basin remains a rider and fan favourite, alternative venues are now being explored to ensure Britain maintains its place in the MXGP world tour.
Infront Moto Racing sound determined to keep delivering world-class racing for the British fans. Whether at Matterley Basin or a new location, the aim is to secure a stable future for the GP in the UK.
The coming months may prove crucial in shaping the direction of the British Grand Prix, but what remains clear is the desire from both the organisers and the series promoters to ensure that the UK continues to be represented on the MXGP calendar.
Regarding the 2026 MXGP calendar, we shouldn’t face too much more of a wait as Luongo confirmed the provisional calendar should be announced after Australia.
“We are finalising the calendar in the weeks to come and should be ready to announce the provisional one after Australia. Then during a season, there are always challenges faced by some organizers and we have to deal with some modifications”, Luongo added.
