EXCL: Foxhills secures two-year contract to host MXGP

Just before Christmas, big news dropped for British motocross fans – Foxhills will make a return to the MXGP World Championship calendar for the first time since the late 1990s. While Matterley Basin has proudly hosted the British GP in recent years, the iconic old-school Foxhills circuit is set for a comeback in 2026.

In speaking with British MXGP promoter Paul Cook, it has now been confirmed that this isn’t just a one-off return. Foxhills has secured a two-year deal, meaning the venue will also stage the British MXGP World Championship round in 2027.

Originally pencilled in for May, the event has now been moved to July – a change Cook believes works in Foxhills’ favour.

“It’s a two-year contract straight off. We’re also happy with going to the date in July. We could have made May work, but if we were to have a really bad winter, we couldn’t do what we wanted on the track and I didn’t want that. So when they asked if we would be happy to go to July… I said yeah, we’ll be happy with it. I know July could obviously be a drier month but we’re putting another lake in, a bigger lake than the other lake we have. It means we’ll have plenty of water on site just for that event in July.”

One concern among fans has been the fact that the Foxhills land is currently up for sale. However, Cook moved quickly to reassure everyone that the future of the event is secure – at least for the coming years.

“To be honest with you, I’ve got a contract a few more years yet on that lease. So we all know that Foxhills and the land surrounding it up for sale is tied up in an estate. We’ve got a contract with Fairhurst Estate for a few more years yet. I wouldn’t put all my money into something which I think won’t go ahead and that’s where we’re at with that.”

There’s no denying Matterley Basin has delivered some incredible British GPs – but for the next two seasons, MXGP heads back to a venue steeped in heritage. With its challenging layout and nostalgic charm, Foxhills’ return offers something fresh – and sometimes, change can be a very good thing.

Now, the hope is that British fans will rally behind the event and help make the Foxhills MXGP comeback one to remember.
