Young Hungarian talent Áron Katona is set to take the next step in his career as he makes the move up to contest the EMX250 Championship in 2026. The promising rider has impressed throughout his time in the 125cc ranks with his technical ability, smooth style and strong work ethic.
Despite his young age, Katona has already shown maturity beyond his years, and this move marks a significant milestone in his development. While it’s not yet confirmed which team he’ll be lining up with, one thing is certain – Katona is ready to embrace the next challenge.
“My personal goal for a while has been to move up to a new class for the 2026 season and continue racing with a 250cc bike. I was really excited when KTM offered me this incredible opportunity for the 2026 season”, Katona exclusively told GateDrop.com.
If Katona had decided to race the EMX125 series again in 2026 he’d have been a big favourite for the title but Katona loves a challenge and always wanted to make the next step in his career – a move to the EMX250 series.
“For me, progress is the top priority – both technically and mentally. I believe that stepping up to this new category will give me a great chance to develop further in both areas. Staying in the 125cc class was never really part of my plan; I’m ready for a new challenge. It’s true that I haven’t ridden a 250cc bike before, so it will definitely be a big step, but I can’t wait to start training in November.”
Whilst 2026 will be a learning year for Katona, he has already proven in the past that he is a quick learner so as the season progresses don’t be too surprised to see him running at the front – but this year a learning year for him so the goal will be to learn throughout the course of the season.
“I think by now I’m used to being one of the youngest riders in the season – and it’ll be the same this time. My goal is to get up to speed as quickly as possible and perform at my absolute best. I’ll do everything I can to compete professionally. My preparation after the injury has also been serious and demanding, but I feel ready. Once again, I’d like to thank KTM for their trust and support – it truly means a lot to me.”
After an injury ended his 2025 season and EMX125 title threat, Katona’s determination to bounce back and continue progressing has been evident. His winter preparation will be key as he adapts to the increased power and intensity of the 250cc machine. The EMX250 series is going to be very stacked in 2026 but it is seen as the final step before entering the MX2 World Championship – and Katona is eager to prove he belongs among Europe’s best.
Hungarian motocross continues to rise on the international scene, and Katona’s move is another positive sign for the nation’s growing presence in European racing. If his early signs of talent and drive are anything to go by, 2026 could be an exciting season for both Katona and Hungarian fans as he embarks on this next chapter in his career.
