Darren Lawrence had some interesting things to say in San Diego when we caught up with him after the main event following Jett and Hunter going 2-5 in a big rebound from their 12-11 at A1!
On bike set-up progress Darren said:
A good recovery from the boys (at San Diego). That was unreal racing tonight, I really loved watching that, it was so good. So yeah, it was good to finally get our settings sorted a little closer and now we can just try and get the boys some consistent laps.
We’ve been doing so much testing, you sort of do two laps and then you know you give feedback, two laps and feedback, so now what I’ve seen tonight was just the boys their eye speed was just a little slow in some areas. So yeah, really good.
At our practice track (before A1) we were sort of like hey, we found something we’re really happy with. This is a pretty good window and then you’ll start your season and you can go a little bit, a little bit with it. It blew our socks off that it was so bad, you know? You sort of forget how slippery Anaheim gets, how hard it gets. so yeah boo on our behalf, I wanted to sack myself (laughs).
And on the haters?
You’re always going to have people that love you and always going to have people that hate you. I think what’s most important, I say to my boys is the people that know you and the people that are in your circle love you. Every person that knows Jett and every person that knows Hunter would take a bullet for them and they’re the only people that matter. That’s talking to everybody in the world, there’s always people on the outside especially with this stupid thing that have an opinion and they have no accountability of their opinion. You know so it’s worthless and that’s what I talk to them about, the people that are closest to you and in your circle. They’re the only ones that matter.
I sort of can’t blame them either. Because people shouldn’t put bullsh*t on the internet. You know and then people believe it you know from not credible sources and they still believe it because they want to hate the boys. It’s just natural, you’re never going to change their minds because they want to hate them so they’ll find anything they can to hate them. It’s fine you’re never going to change their mind so I’ve said to them you don’t argue with an idiot because it’s hard to tell who the idiot is (laughs).
