In an interview with Gatedrop on press day at San Diego, the always open and honest, Darren Lawrence, explained the freak situation that led to Jett Lawrence’ crash that ended his Supercross title hopes before the season even started and left the unfortunate Jett with a broken leg and, unbelievably, injured for the third year in a row.

Darren said: “It’s just one of those things. A lot of people go through it, they have just a few years of just silly mistakes and that’s all it is with Jett. Like, the knee was just something weird, tabbed his foot and it did his ACL, it was just weird, you know.

“So, this one was the same, it just went over a jump, his foot touched the gear lever, clicked it into neutral and boom, had neutral when he hit the face of the next jump. We have not hit neutral on that motorcycle in four years, but just his foot just touched it and that was it, game over.

“It was a big double, so went over it, went to hit the face out and you jumped, it was a little double, he jumped into the face, so as soon as you land, it was just…on the data, we looked at it, it actually didn’t even get to neutral in the air, it was as he hit it, it pulled it in because it was right on the top little pinnacle of the shifter drum.

“So, it was a really strange, like, the perfect storm, you know, because like I said, we’ve never hit neutral on that bike, ever. So, it’s just, unlucky, but he maybe needs to focus a little more, because when you, you’ll find a person so naturally talented and they do it so easy, the biggest thing is keeping them focused, you know?”
