In a great interview on the AC JB podcast, Cooper Webb opened up on the mental side of being a title contender and just how much pressure it is week-in, week-out to deal with.

We had Chase Sexton admitting he needed a break after being in title battles year on year and now Webb, who won his third supercross title this year has shed some light on how it was for him this season.

Webb, known for his mental toughness under pressure, said: “It doesn’t get talked about enough, lucky enough I have been very good at it, but the pressure you have is immense. It eats at you hard. Even for me, the last month of this championship, I am not scared to admit, I was very stressed. I wasn’t myself, my home life I was definitely maybe a little more grumpy and stuff like that

In a head nod to the greats of the past stringing championship after championship together but retiring early, Webb said he understands: “For our last ten years, none of us have really been able to string three or four in a row like those guys (RV, Dungey, RC). I have been at Aldon’s, you have been at Aldon’s, you know how gnarly that program is and how beneficial it is but how physically demanding it is. You get to a point where maybe those guys ran out of motivation because they are winning all the time or they are burning the candle on all ends and they are maybe not enjoying the balance of life.
