The 2025 MXGP World Championship has been plagued by injuries, but there’s finally some good news for fans as two big names and factory riders are set to return at round 16 in Uddevalla, Sweden.

Pauls Jonass actually made his return to competitive racing at the weekend in Balen, where he impressed in the sand with a strong third overall in the MX1 class. The Latvian will now be back in MXGP action in Sweden, with KRT team manager Antti Pyrhönen explaining the decision to wait until Uddevalla.

“We just felt it’s a bit too early to come back to look at Lommel. So actually, now for Uddevalla he has a very good time to really prepare for himself. He has been many years in a situation that needs to come back as quick as possible. I feel that maybe sometimes it was coasting him a bit but now he will be going to Uddevalla well prepared. We then try to do a strong end of the season with him,” Pyrhönen told GateDrop.com.

Five-time World Champion Tim Gajser will also make his long-awaited return after spending recent weeks logging laps at his home track. The Slovenian has now been given the medical all-clear and is ready to race in what is likely to be his final season with HRC Honda.

HRC MXGP confirmed the news on social media:

“Great news race fans as Tim Gajser has received the medical green light to go racing in Uddevalla, Sweden. See you there!”

The Swedish GP could also see another high-profile comeback in the MX2 class, with one of the championship’s top riders expected to return. While this is yet to be officially confirmed, fans should keep a close eye out for an announcement in the coming days.

With Jonass and Gajser back in the gate – and potentially another big MX2 name joining them – Uddevalla is shaping up to be an exciting round of the championship.
