Chad Reed on Sexton, Tomac, Jett Lawrence and Cooper Webb

In a brilliant Title 24 podcast with Ricky Carmichael, Chad Reed replaced Ryan Villopoto for an episode as the iconic duo of the 2000s relived their battles and the respect they have for each other as well as Chad giving his view on the riders of 2025 and, as usual, he has some very articulate and insightful things to say.

Chad Reed on…

Chase Sexton: He has just made decisions and mistakes that a guy of his calibre should not make. I’m interested to see as a fan, what did the weekend off bring? Does he go back to basics, does he have the correct people around him, that’s probably the biggest question. Does Chase Sexton have the correct information around him to change and get back to winning races and look at winning the war not so much the battle? I hope Chase has learnt his lesson quickly, if he does, it’s going to be really hard for those boys to take on Chase Sexton at Chase Sexton’s best.

Cooper Webb: I am a big Cooper Webb fan and believer. He wins races in a lot of ways, (similar to) how I was able to win races, sometimes I look in the mirror and Cooper and I could be very much the same person, how we think, how we win, how we never give up. You don’t just find yourself in a position to win, that’s by design.

The Cooper Webb I saw in Indianapolis, they should be scared of him, his starts were on point, his speed was on point. Going back to how I feel I relate to how Cooper Webb wins, That confidence you are giving Cooper Webb right now is really dangerous. Now he believes he has the best bike, you don’t think Cooper Webb has a chip on his shoulde that he wants his old team and his replacment to beat him?! If there’s one bike or team in the pits to beat it’s that orange one!

Jett Lawrence: I was surprised to see the supercross champ struggle as much as he did with the new bike. It seemed like as soon as Hunter got on that bike, that bike seemed like it was a big improvement for his motocross championship. Jett was able to get the SMX world championship wrapped up, it seemed like all things were flowing in the right way. I didn’t necessarily think that anyone could beat him skill to skill. His stuggles are somewhat a surprise me.

Eli Tomac: Eli is probably the biggest bummer. When your time is coming to an end, sometimes it’s really hard because you want to win soo bad because it’s going away (career ending soon) that the win outweighs (everything) and becomes too big of an outlook. I was in the stands at San Diego, any pass he made the crowd went crazy, any lap led, the crowd was going nuts. I can relate to that at the end of my career where the crowd was wanting you, and you were one of the favourites to win, and then your desire is so high to win. It is a bummer in my opinion to see him go out, I hope this is not the last year that wee see, I hope he comes back to the level he was at this year.
