On the back of Jeffrey Herlings saying he can’t find any weakness in Jett Lawrence, Ricky Carmichael, who most believe is the best to ever do it, says that on bike skills, Jett Lawrence is ahead of him, when asked by Ryan Villopoto if he thought he could beat Jett Lawrence if they raced in their prime.
A humble RC, who always managed to figure out how to win, be it against McGrath, Reed, Windham or Stewart, said:
“I mean, from the mental side of things, I think that I could have, but I don’t know. I think he’s pretty mentally astute. You know, that’s one reason why he’s so good. But just the bike skill and he has way more bike skill than I ever had or dreamed of. So I don’t know if that would be the thing, the kicker for him of why I couldn’t beat him. But it’s just hard. You know, it’s hard to tell. From a bike skill perspective, there’s no shot I could beat him.”
RV was asked if he was in his prime on his 250, could he run with Deegan and Villopoto while polite, feels he could have got the job done: “Sure, I think I would sit on this side of the computer and say, hell yeah, I think I could have beat him. You know, a guy racing a guy like Haiden, if he had, if he had somebody like yourself RC or like me that dominated the class because he has been dominating the 250 class basically since he’s come in. You know, it’s very, very rarely do you find a 2000 season, 2007 season like me and Ben Townley, right, where we swapped moto’s every single weekend. Pretty much we lost one overall and outdoors more often than not. You find what you find here where Haiden was just one of those cream of the crops like that.
“So for sure, I would like to sit on this side of the computer screen and say, I think I would have something for him, if not could beat him majority of the time or vice versa. You don’t know. You will never know. Obviously, technology has changed a lot with the motorcycles. You know, bikes are better, faster. They handle better. So things like that. But, yeah, I’d love to think that I could run with Haiden and I think I could have.”
And it’s hard to disagree, RV was simply sensational on his PC 250 Kawasaki. Get their full view below, including their thoughts on if Sexton will be better on Kawasaki, both RC and RV are not sure he will…RC said: “I’m not being negative, but I just I don’t know why it would be any better from comparing from when he went from Honda to KTM or he’s going from KTM to Kawi. I just, you know, respectfully, I just don’t see how it’s going to make him be so much better than what he is now.“
